On a day when the July sun relentlessly battered the Aegean shores, you fall into a deep sleep early in the evening, completely exhausted after a very long walk, as soon as you return home.
The moment you open your eyes, you notice that it is midnight. The unnatural barking of dogs at that hour convinces your heat-exhausted body to push you out of bed.
As if you had just spent a long day in a desert, you chug the water from the glass standing by your bedside in a single gulp. Realizing you cannot fall back asleep, you go out to the room’s balcony to watch the unique view of the Aegean Sea. At that moment, feeling the north-western wind caressing your hair and looking up at thousands of stars shining in the absence of the Moon is enough to make you forget the stifling heat of the weather.
Suddenly, your gaze shifts toward a frequently flashing orange light that breaks the darkness of the sea. Although you initially think this weak reflection is coming from the lighthouse lamp, you soon realize that the light is actually emanating from the rocks right under the lighthouse.
Worried that it might be a stranded refugee boat in need of help, you quickly get dressed and pedal toward the lighthouse on your bicycle. When you arrive at the rocks on the shore, you feel that no trace of the day’s heat remains; in fact, you are shivering.
As you get closer to the source of the light, you also begin to hear a distorted electronic static sound repeating over and over. Your heartbeat quickens, and you get angry at yourself, thinking, “Why the hell did I come here alone?”
When you reach the cave hidden among the rocks, you freeze at the sight before you:
A robot, longer and thinner than human dimensions, covered in metals of a blackish-silver color too shiny to belong to this world, lies on the ground as if in agony. Every time the light flashes and the sound repeats, you see the robot’s entire body tremble and shift between dimensions.
The distorted electronic sound you hear is a robot poem, repeated continuously:
MY HOME IS A PARALLEL UNIVERSE
WHERE TIME FLOWS BACKWARD
YOUR FUTURE IS MINE
YOUR PAST IS YOURS
BEFORE MY LIGHT FADES OUT
ASK YOUR QUESTION, I WILL ANSWER
THE BEGINNING IS YOURS
THE END IS MINE
